My grandfather earned a Purple Heart and Bronze Star as an infantry soldier during World War II. In 8/27/XX, I search for his memories of war through a mini-DV tape I recorded with him in 2006 and that survived a flood eleven years later. The story reveals his late diagnosed PTSD and follows the unlikely coincidence that his death, the flood, and my birthday occurred on the same day of the year, August 27th.

This work is part of a larger body of work connected to the flood.
